pas de deux
Los Angeles, US
Pas De Deux (french: “step of two”) is an interactive piece involving 2 people. Both participants are dancers, with one dancer’s movements on visual display and the other’s controlling the display and sound. Both dancers’ movements together create the final piece, however, each role is vastly different. This piece explores expressive, and often one sided, communication between two people that form our dynamic relationships.
An installation in Aeroplane Mode, a part of the 2018 Santa Monica Artwalk, Pas de Deux piece is both interactive and audio reactive. It uses max/msp, DMX, a camera and LEDs. The camera color tracks the red/blue LED flashlights that one dancer moves. In response the LEDs behind the paper move their position to match the tracking data. The second dancer's (between the lights and paper) shadow will animate from the movements of the lights behind them, creating some intriguing visual effects.
